Argentina Copa America squad 2024
Argentina Copa America squad 2024: Messi, Lisandro Martinez among players in provisional national team roster, Dybala out
World champions Argentina will be aiming for a historic three consecutive major tournament victories as they chase Copa America glory in the United States. Argentina defeated Brazil to claim the title in the last edition and will be looking to defend their crown in 2024.
Inspirational captain Lionel Messi will return to try to add another medal to his collection, with head coach Lionel Scaloni once again tasked with blending youth and experience into a winning formula.
On May 20, Scaloni announced a 29-player squad for Argentina's upcoming friendlies against Ecuador and Guatemala, which doubles as a provisional selection for the Copa America. Messi, unsurprisingly, was included on the list, and Scaloni's selections also included some surprises.
How many players are in Copa America 2024 squads?
Teams have the opportunity to name provisional squads of up to 55 players for pre-tournament training camps and friendly matches. These groups must be a minimum of 35 players and contain at least four goalkeepers.
The final rosters, which must be confirmed by June 12, will comprise a maximum of 26 players. At least three of these players must be goalkeepers, and they must all be selected from the provisional squad, except in exceptional circumstances.
Argentina Copa America squad 2024: Provisional roster
Here is the full squad named for Argentina's upcoming friendlies. This will need to be trimmed to 26 players for the Copa America.
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has made the cut despite an injury-ruined season, although there is no place for Paulo Dybala. This could mean the Roma forward is earmarked for a place as one of Argentina's over-age players for the Paris Olympic games.
