Newcastle star set to leave after wife complained it was ‘inconvenient'
Newcastle goalkeeper Loris Karius will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Karius moved to Tyneside back in 2022 to provide cover for the Magpies who were struggling with injuries at the time.
The German keeper is best known for his time as Liverpool's number one, particularly the 2018 Champions League final where he made two errors which ultimately cost them the game.
He's only made a single appearance in the 2023 Carabao Cup final since his move to St James' Park having been brought in purely as a backup option.
Unsurprisingly he will be leaving in the summer and will look to find a club that will offer him regular game time.
The decision was confirmed by journalist Fabrizio Romano on social media and comes ahead of a big summer of transfers for the club.
The Magpies are currently under pressure to stick to the Premier League's tight financial restrictions which only allow clubs to make losses of £105 million over three years.
Newcastle have recorded losses of £150 million over the past two years so will be forced to sell some of their players before they buy anyone.
It's expected the deadwood will be sold but star man Bruno Guimaraes could also depart with the Brazilian having a £100 million release clause in his contract.
Karius' departure will mark the start of an important summer for the Saudi-backed side who have aspirations of returning to Europe and eventually winning silverware.
Whilst he will be off their wage bill it won't save them anywhere near enough money to spend big in the transfer window.
One person who will be happy with the club's decision not to renew Karius' contract will be his wife.
He recently married Italian TV presenter Diletta Leotta who had previously described his move to the North East as 'inconvenient'.
