Klopp Backs Liverpool Stance on Super League Ruling, But Sees Opportunity for Wider Change
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has weighed in on the European Court of Justice's ruling on the European Super League, agreeing with his club's stance while also hinting at a broader desire for reform in football governance.
Klopp fully supports Liverpool's official statement which welcomed the court's decision, viewing it as a challenge to the perceived overreach of governing bodies like FIFA and UEFA. He expressed concern about the unilateral addition of matches to competitions without player or fan input:
"I like the verdict anyway. I like that we finally get a little bit of an understanding that FIFA and UEFA and other FA's or whatever cannot just do what they want."
The German manager highlighted the need for dialogue, suggesting:
"We have to talk about it in the future, we have to talk about a lot of stuff. If they keep doing the things they do like putting in competitions with more games and no one really has any say in it. What's going on there?"
While emphasizing his continued opposition to the Super League itself, Klopp sees the court's decision as an opportunity to address concerns about power imbalances within football:
"I like that they get a bit of a shake, 'OK, you cannot exactly do what you want'."
