How Man Utd could line up under Zinedine Zidane if he replaces Erik ten Hag as manager
Erik ten Hag is under increasing pressure at Manchester United after their below-par start to the 23/24 campaign.
During the summer transfer window, United brought in the likes of Mason Mount, Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, Sergio Reguilon and Sofyan Amrabat.
However, despite the big money spent, Ten Hag’s men have so far failed to live up to the expectation.
Currently, the Red Devils are sixth in the Premier League table and their Champions League campaign came to an end on Tuesday night.
With the pressure mounting on Ten Hag amid speculation that Frenchman Zinedine Zidane is being lined up to replace the Dutchman.
Zidane has been out of a job since leaving Real Madrid back in 2021. During his time with Los Blancos, the Frenchman led them to three Champions League titles in a row.
If Zidane is to take over from Ten Hag in the near future, he might not be able to bring in players straightaway and will have to make the best out of the current squad.
However, a change of manager could give fringe players a chance to reignite their United careers. This is how United could potentially line up with Zidane at the helm.
Goalkeeper - Andre Onana
Onana has had a difficult start to life at United but will keep his place as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. However, in future transfer windows, Zidane could choose to bring in someone else.
Defence - Aaron Wan Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw
This season, Varane has fallen out of favour under Ten Hag as the likes of Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof have been selected ahead of the Frenchman.
However, Varane played a huge part in Madrid’s success under Zidane and could be handed a return to the United team.
Midfield - Mason Mount, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes
Casemiro’s form has been put under the microscope this season but similar to Varane, the Brazilian was an integral part of Zidane’s Madrid team and the Frenchman could bring the best out of the midfielder again.
Attack - Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford
A change of manager could be exactly what Sancho needs to reignite his United career after his public spat with Ten Hag.
New manager plus a new way of playing could bring Sancho’s Borussia Dortmund form back on show.
