Jota tries to terminate Al Ittihad contract and asks for his full £200,000-a-week three-year salary
Jota's bid to end his contract with Al Ittihad has hit a hurdle, as per Hihi2. The footballer, who moved from Celtic to the Saudi Pro League for £25 million this summer, faced challenges in Saudi Arabia.
The problem arose because Saudi teams are allowed only eight foreign players in their Pro League squad. With the arrivals of Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante, Jota's place became uncertain.
The signing of Italy international Luiz Felipe took Al Ittihad over the foreign player limit, and Jota was left out of the squad, making him ineligible to play domestically until January.
Reports suggested Jota was exploring contract termination, seeking his full £200,000-a-week salary for the remaining three years, however, his attempt wasn't successful. Notably, Al Ittihad's management is considering a reshuffle that might see Jota back in the squad when registration reopens in January.
