Rodrygo names Neymar his idol after assist for record-breaking goal

From idolizing Cristiano Ronaldo, Rodrygo now considers Neymar Jr. his football idol.

Speaking after scoring twice and claiming an assist in Brazil's 5-1 win against Bolivia, Rodrygo said: “Neymar is my idol."

"Being able to assist him in becoming our national team’s top scorer will stay in my memory forever.”

It was indeed Rodrygo's superb assist that helped Neymar score his first for Brazil on the night and his 78th in total for the Selecao.

Neymar would add one more goal to his name in the 90th minute to take his overall tally for Brazil to 79. By so doing, he surpassed the legendary Pele, who scored 77 goals for Brazil before his retirement.

Vinicius Jr has also congratulated Neymar for his achievement by commenting, “Congrats bro, I’m happy for you.”

Meanwhile, Rodrygo has now scored four goals for the Brazil national team.
