'No wonder Balogun became a yank': Arsenal fans react as Southgate refuses to play Eddie Nketiah
The first international break of the 2023/24 season is over and Arsenal players are now heading back.
Eddie Nketiah, who was called up by Gareth Southgate, was an unused substitute for England against Ukraine and Scotland.
And the supporters are asking what was the point of including the striker in the squad without even giving him a single minute on the pitch.
Mobile-Horse5018 (via /r/Gunners): "Can't simply understand he literally chooses Maguire, Henderson, Gallagher or Wilson in his squad. Beyond logic."
Active_Bee_7937: "What was the point in Wilson getting 10 minutes at the end of the match [vs Scotland]? Why not give a debut senior cap to the young striker you gassed up when you did squad selection."
BocatFan: "This is what pisses me off the most. Wilson is third choice, is north of 30, and Southgate already knows how he plays. So why's a younger player sitting on the bench during a f***ing friendly for him? Useless."
Jestrin: "How Southgate still has a job is beyond me. He continues to play favorites and not based on form and the best balance of the team, and always underachieves despite England almost always having one of the best squads in the world on paper every tournament."
nimbra2: "Nketiah is still eligible for Ghana. How does Southgate call him up, make him stay home, and then not give him a single minute?! No wonder Balogun became a yank."
hihbhu: "I hope Eddie doesn't wait around if he's not given the chance to have his debut in the next international break. There's no excuse for Southgate."
