Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk handed extended ban, how many games he'll miss revealed
Virgil van Dijk has been given an additional one-game ban after being charged by the FA with improper conduct, The Athletic reports. The 32-year-old was also handed a £100,000 fine.
The Liverpool captain was sent off in the Newcastle game after which he argued fiercely with referee John Brooks.
"The defender admitted that he acted in an improper manner and used abusive and insulting words towards a match official after being sent off in the 29th minute, and the sanctions were subsequently imposed by an independent regulatory commission," an FA statement read.
"Full written reasons for this case will be published in due course."
As a result, Van Dijk will miss the away game against Wolves in the Premier League next Saturday.
