“He’s looked good: Southgate says Maguire will get 'a lot more minutes' at United
The England boss backs the centre-back to win back his place at Old Trafford.
“He’s looked good. He’s training with top players every day,” Gareth Southgate said of Harry Maguire, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
“Obviously he got into the game the other day [Arsenal] at a critical point, so as a defender that’s not ideal, to come into a game at that situation.
“But of course, he’s a very experienced player and he’s looked very good in training. Harry knows where our support is.
“He knows he has to keep playing well for us and I think over the next few weeks given what’s happening with their squad with injuries he may well have a lot more minutes for them as well.”
Due to injuries, Man United had to finish the Arsenal game with a Maguire – Evans centre-back pairing. Licha picked up a foot injury against the Gunners while Varane is out until after the international break.
Maguire is currently a fourth-choice centre-back with the Red Devils.
