Chelsea are facing a major problem with their Goal of the Month award for September
Chelsea are facing a major problem with their Goal of the Month competition - as they are yet to score.
The Blues were hoping to put last season's dismal campaign behind them and usher in a new era under Mauricio Pochettino.
But despite another mammoth spending spree under owner Todd Boehly, Chelsea are underperforming and currently lie in 14th place.
Their only win in the Premier League this term came at home to newly promoted Luton Town and on Sunday they suffered a third loss at home to Aston Villa, who climbed up to sixth courtesy of Ollie Watkins' solitary strike.
Chelsea failed to score for the third consecutive game, following on from a defeat to Nottingham Forest and a 0-0 draw with Bournemouth.
And they are now very much in danger of having a September Goal of the month vote without a single strike to choose from.
The Blues do still have one more game before we enter October but that is against Brighton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
That is the final chance to find the net or else Chelsea will have to get very creative. Predictably, plenty of fans trolled the Blues on social media for firing blanks.
One wrote: "Chelsea's goal of the month is gonna be from the u23s because the senior team hasn't scored
A second said: "Chelsea’s goal of the month will be from training."
A third laughed: "Chelsea in September: Chelsea 0-1 Nottm Forest, Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea, Chelsea 0-1 Aston Villa. If they don't score against Brighton on Wednesday, they won't be able to run a Goal of the Month competition."
Another joked: "Chelsea’s goal of the month is just gonna be ‘Thank you for watching’."
A fifth added: "When you realise Chelsea can’t do a goal of the month competition because they haven’t scored yet…"
A sixth reacted: "Chelsea’s goal of the month has to be picked from the ones they conceded because they haven’t scored any in 30 calendar days."
Chelsea's last goal was against AFC Wimbledon on 30 August and although there has been an international break, it's certainly not acceptable for such an expensive collection of players.
