Angel Di Maria Chooses Love for Football and Team Over Money, Returns to Benfica
Angel Di Maria has returned to Benfica after spending 13 years playing for more prestigious European teams. He decided to choose love for football and team over money.
In dialogue with the local media outlet B24PT, Rui Costa, the president of sports in Benfica, revealed how the negotiation with the Argentine was.
He said: "Di María signed his contract a month before coming to Benfica. He did not want to hear anything else when he found out that the club wanted to incorporate him."
"Di María’s salary doesn't go over the salary cap, he came without any signing bonus"
"He did not want to know what his salary would be, he did not even ask for a euro more than what we were willing to offer him. He told me: I really want to play for Benfica again for whatever salary they give me."
During his initial time with the Portuguese team, the striker participated in 121 matches, scoring 15 goals, and providing 28 assists.
