West Ham Soar to Premier League Top Spot
West Ham United have claimed the top spot in the Premier League table after a 3-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
The Hammers were clinical on the counterattack, scoring three goals from three shots on target. James Ward-Prowse, who has been a stunning addition since joining from Southampton, opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Jarrod Bowen doubled the lead in the 57th minute, and Pablo Fornals added a third in the 88th minute.
Brighton had the majority of possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances. They were denied by a combination of good defending from West Ham and some excellent saves from Alphonse Areola.
The win is West Ham's second in three games this season. They have also drawn against Bournemouth. They are now level on points with Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, but they have a better goal difference.
This is a very impressive start for West Ham, who had a slow summer transfer window and a rumored conflict between head coach David Moyes and sporting director Tim Steidten. However, the conflict seems to be over, and the new players have made an impact.
Ward-Prowse has been the standout so far, but Fornals, Kurt Zouma, and Nayef Aguerd have also impressed. Moyes has also been able to get the best out of Michail Antonio, who has scored three goals in three games.
West Ham will be hoping to maintain their good form in the coming weeks. They have a tough run of fixtures coming up, but they will be confident of challenging for a top-four finish this season.
