Spain Women's Coach Vilda Condemns Rubiales, Refuses to Resign
Does anyone remember Spain's Women won the World Cup?
The entire federation is mired in scandal and the team's tremendous achievement is overshadowed by controversy.
At the heart of it all is the Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales, a figure so unpopular among the female group that 81 footballers refuse to be called up by Spain until Rubiales is removed.
And now one of Rubiales's friends Jorge Vilda, the women's team head coach, has turned on him.
Vilda is quoted saying: "I deeply regret that the victory of Spanish Women's football has been harmed by the inappropriate behaviour Luis Rubiales has carried out."
Despite being a World Cup winner, Vilda himself is hugely unpopular for a number of reasons. He, however, refuses to resign himself even though the entire coaching staff except for the manager have resigned.
Vilda said: "My work as the national team's head coach and sports director has been oriented towards achieving sporting success, but also promoting initiatives that encourage inclusion, respect and equity."
