Sevilla are bottom of La Liga after ‘transfer listing their entire squad’
Domestically, the 22/23 season was one to forget for Sevilla as they often flirted with relegation. But they did manage to win the Europa League after beating Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
However, despite tasting European glory, their summer has been extremely chaotic.
Back in June, it was reported by Radio MARCA’s Pedro Pablo Parrado that Sevilla president Pepe Castro has informed manager Jose Luis Mendilibar that the club are in debt amounting to €90 million.
The report claimed that as a result of the debt, every player from their Europa League winning squad has been declared transferable.
It is believed that the club need to sell players in order to solve their financial problems and that selling one or two major players would not be enough.
So far, there has only been one high-profile exit, with goalkeeper Bono moving to Saudi Professional League side Al Hilal for a reported fee of €21 million.
However, their torrid summer has appeared to take its toll on the team’s performance.
Having three matches in the 23/24 La Liga season, Sevilla are bottom of the table after losing to Valencia, Deportivo Alaves and Girona.

Speaking recently, Mendilibar spoke about the impact he has had on the team.
As per UEFA, he said: “When I arrived I found a group of players who were rather discouraged and had their heads down. We asked them to be calmer, to keep things simple without over-complicating matters, and they understood that.
“The results improved and that gave them the opportunity to believe in what we were doing. I saw the positives and not the negatives, and I always tried to make the players understand that they are the best squad I've ever had in my career.”Speaking recently, Mendilibar spoke about the impact he has had on the team.
