Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has been involved in a violent brawl in Newcastle city centre.

Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles was reportedly ‘attacked’ by a gang of men during a city-centre brawl.

Daily Mail reports that Northumbria Police officers were called to an incident in Newcastle during the early morning hours of Sunday (August 20).

A gang of men reportedly ‘threatened to shoot’ Lascelles who was on a night out with his 19-year-old brother and a friend.

Newcastle boss Eddie Hower had given the squad a few days off in the wake of their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.

The report claims that the Englishman's brother was elbowed in the throat in an unprovoked attack as the group were leaving a nightclub.

A bottle of vodka was also allegedly hurled toward the defender, missing his head narrowly.

A group of ‘six to eight men’ allegedly attacked the centre-back where he was ‘punched from all angles’.

Lascelles reportedly managed to get one of the men on the floor, however, his brother was left bleeding from a punch, while his friend was ‘knocked unconscious’.

During the incident, the former England U21 international was allegedly threatened by the attackers who told the 29-year-old that they would shoot him.

The report states that Lascelles was reportedly acting in self-defence during the entirety of the incident.

The group of men fled the scene before emergency services arrived with Lacelles’ friend taken to hospital.

Footage emerged of the incident which took place outside The Mile Castle Wetherspoons.

Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope later confirmed that it was indeed the Newcaslte captain involved in the brawl.

Hope states that Newcastle United are aware of the incident and are dealing with it internally.

Both the Northumbria Police and Newcastle United have been contacted for a response in relation to the incident.

Lascelles has been with the club since 2014, however has been linked to a move away from Tyneside this transfer window.

Turkish side Besiktas are rumoured to be interested in the defender.

Lascelles has yet to establish himself as a regular under Eddie Howe, featuring in just 11 games across all games last season.
