Mason Greenwood's staggering valuation before Manchester United suspension revealed

Mason Greenwood is set to part ways with Manchester United by mutual consent, and the remarkable value of his potential transfer prior to his suspension in January 2022 has now come to light.

Greenwood faced suspension from United following his arrest on charges of rape and assault. Subsequently, he was accused of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive conduct, and assault resulting in bodily harm.

In February, the CPS dropped these charges, explaining that a combination of key witnesses retracting their statements and new evidence emerging had rendered a successful conviction unlikely.

Following this, Manchester United conducted their own internal inquiry into Greenwood's actions, spanning six months.

On Monday, the club officially confirmed their collaboration with Greenwood to facilitate his departure from the team. Their statement concluded, "All parties involved, including Mason, acknowledge the challenges associated with his return to professional play at Manchester United. As a result, it has been jointly decided that pursuing his career away from Old Trafford would be the most suitable path. We will now actively assist Mason in achieving this outcome."

Additionally, it was disclosed that during the negotiation of his departure, he will refrain from training at Carrington, according to Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News.

Now, details about his substantial valuation prior to his suspension have emerged.

Mason Greenwood's Valuation Preceding Man Utd Suspension

According to the CIES Football Observatory's assessment as of June 2021, Mason Greenwood was positioned among the top three most valuable players in global football.

At an astonishing €178 million (£152 million), he commanded a remarkable valuation, which was further influenced by his contract, still possessing four years at that juncture.

Surpassing Greenwood in valuation were only Phil Foden of Manchester City (€190 million) and Marcus Rashford, Greenwood's teammate (€159 million), who ranked second and third, respectively.

Remarkably, three Manchester United players secured spots within the top five. Bruno Fernandes (€154.3 million) held the fifth position, trailing Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland (€155.5 million).

Until Greenwood's departure from Manchester United is realized, he remains under contract with the club. It remains uncertain whether he will be temporarily loaned out or permanently transferred during the upcoming summer.

Having signed a four-year contract extension in February 2021, his current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2025.
