Manchester United have confirmed the club is now entering the "final stages" of the process that will determine the future of Mason Greenwood.
The England international has not played for the club since January 2022 after being suspended and charged with attempted rape and assault. However, earlier this year, Greenwood was cleared, with the the charges against the suspended United forward dropped.
It has now been reported by The Athletic that club CEO Richard Arnold told United staff earlier this month Greenwood would be returning to be a part of Erik ten Hag's first-team plans.
The Athletic say the United CEO told staff the club would be bringing the forward back into the fold, reintegrating Greenwood by way of filming an explainer video to delve into their decision for the benefit of fans and the general public.
The club have also released a statement confirming they are in the final stages of deciding upon his future at Old Trafford. The statement read: "Following the dropping of all charges against Mason Greenwood in February 2023, Manchester United has conducted a thorough investigation into the allegations made against him.
"This has drawn on extensive evidence and context not in the public domain, and we have heard from numerous people with direct involvement or knowledge of the case. Throughout this process, the welfare and perspective of the alleged victim has been central to the club’s inquiries, and we respect her right to lifelong anonymity.
"We also have responsibilities to Mason as an employee, as a young person who has been with the club since the age of seven, and as a new father with a partner. The fact-finding phase of our investigation is now complete, and we are in the final stages of making a decision on Mason’s future.
"Contrary to media speculation, that decision has not yet been made and is currently the subject of intensive internal deliberation. Responsibility ultimately rests with the Chief Executive Officer. Once made, the decision will be communicated and explained to the club’s internal and external stakeholders.

Ten Hag is reportedly said to be keen to keep the forward at Old Trafford, and is claimed to have been vocal in wanting to reintroduce him into his first-team plans.
