Man Utd 'cancel' Rasmus Hojlund activity as official transfer announcement 'delayed'

Manchester United have delayed their transfer announcement of Rasmus Hojlund and cancelled a planned activity involving the player and supporters, it has been reported.

Hojlund was seen arriving in Manchester on Tuesday to complete a medical following the agreement of a deal between United and Atalanta.

As per Sky Sports, United will pay the Serie A side an initial £64 million fee, plus a potential £8 million in add-ons, for the 20-year-old Denmark forward.

Erik ten Hag's side launched an official bid for Hojlund in July, following several weeks of exploring whether a deal would be possible for the forward.

But reports in Italy claimed that Hojlund wanted a move to United - and he even enlisted the same agency as the one that represents Ten Hag as a transfer edged closer.

However, fans eagerly awaiting the official announcement of the tall forward as a new United player will have to wait a bit longer.

Man Utd Hojlund announcement 'delayed'

According to the Manchester Evening News, the club's schedule for announcing Hojlund has had to be changed as a result of several factors.

It is understood that the striker arrived in Manchester later than was initially planned for.

As a result, the club are now prioritising the completion of Hojlund's medical - one of the final mandatory steps in what has been a long-running transfer chase.

However, the report adds that this has resulted in a planned activity being cancelled. The Danish forward would have conducted media activities on Wednesday, it is claimed, and would also have met supporters for the first time as a United player.

An official announcement of his signing, it is added, could be made prior to United's friendly against Lens at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Such a manner of announcement is not uncommon for United, with the club completing a deal for Casemiro before their Premier League fixture against Liverpool in the 2022/23 campaign.

The Brazilian was then presented to the Old Trafford faithful before kick-off - and Ten Hag's side went to record their first victory of the season with an impressive 3-1 win.

Writing in a talkSPORT column in June, Mark Goldbridge claimed Hojlund represents a return to the Cristiano Ronaldo era in terms of transfer policy.

He explained: "We've been criticised for buying the finished article, spending a lot of money on players like Angel Di Maria or Paul Pogba, and Hojlund actually represents something that we did with Cristiano Ronaldo all those years ago.

"You buy a talent who's not quite there yet, so you don't pay as much. And we've got a manager renowned for being a developmental one."
