Liverpool handed huge boost ahead of Chelsea clash as two key players spotted back in training

Liverpool have been handed a major injury boost with two key players back in training ahead of their Premier League clash against Chelsea on Sunday.

The Reds have had a disrupted pre-season on a number of levels, particularly when it comes to transfers and injuries.

They completed moves for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to bolster their midfield, but then lost Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi Pro League clubs.

Jurgen Klopp's side are pursuing Romeo Lavia, but have had three bids rejected by Southampton for the midfielder.

Szoboszlai also picked up an injury prior to the side's pre-season friendly against Greuther Furth, but returned to action in the subsequent friendly against Leicester.

Now, Liverpool have received a huge boost, with two players who had long-term injuries seemingly nearing a return.

Two Liverpool stars back in training

During a Reds training session on Wednesday, both Thiago and Stefan Bajcetic were pictured in training ahead of the Chelsea fixture.

Both players have played no part in pre-season, with Bajcetic missing the final two months of last season after sustaining an adductor injury in March.

Jurgen Klopp was initially hopeful of Bajcetic, who has represented Spain at youth level, returning for the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

Given his lack of minutes in pre-season, however, it appears unlikely that he will be ready to face Chelsea on Sunday.

The 19-year-old impressed onlookers last season and will be hoping to continue his rapid rise once he is given the green light to return to competitive action for the Reds.

Thiago, meanwhile, suffered a hip injury in April that ruled him out of Liverpool's run-in. Given the departures in the Reds midfield throughout the summer, the Spain star could play a critical role for Klopp's side this season when he is back to full fitness.
