Liverpool are handed a major scare as Alexis Mac Allister hobbles off in friendly against Bayern Munich
Liverpool's pre-season preparations took a major hit when summer signing Alexis Mac Allister hobbled off the pitch at half-time of their friendly against Bayern Munich.
The Argentine midfielder was forced off after a clash with Bayern's Konrad Laimer, with replays showing that he had suffered a bang to the knee. Mac Allister was able to walk off the pitch, but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp took no further risks by making a number of changes at the break.
Liverpool had started the match well, taking the lead after just two minutes through Cody Gakpo. Virgil van Dijk then doubled the lead inside the first half hour, but Bayern responded well to halve the deficit before half-time through Serge Gnarby and Leroy Sane.
The changes at half-time saw Gakpo move into a midfield role, replacing Mac Allister, with Darwin Nunez coming on to lead the attack. Nunez made an immediate impact, scoring a goal within minutes of coming on. The match finished 3-3, with Liverpool having the better of the second half.
The injury to Mac Allister is a concern for Liverpool, but the performance of Nunez will be a major boost. The Uruguayan striker has now scored three goals in two pre-season games, and he looks like he could be a real threat for Liverpool in the upcoming season.
Overall, it was a positive performance from Liverpool, but the injury to Mac Allister will be a major talking point. The Reds will be hoping that he is able to recover quickly, as he is a key player for them.
