Kane arrives in Germany ahead of 'imminent' Bayern Munich move
England's captain, Harry Kane, arrived in Germany on Friday, following Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou's confirmation that the striker is on the verge of finalizing a deal with Bayern Munich.
Reportedly, the two clubs have reached an agreement on a transfer fee of 100 million euros ($110 million, £86 million) for the 30-year-old player, who had only one year remaining on his contract with Spurs.
Kane received authorization to travel to Germany for his medical examination, a necessary step before what could potentially be a groundbreaking transfer for a Bundesliga club.
He landed in central Munich during the early evening via plane for his medical examination, as reported by an AFP photographer.
Postecoglou is gearing up for his debut Premier League match as the head of Tottenham, scheduled against Brentford on Sunday. He mentioned that he is now strategizing for the team's future without their all-time leading goal scorer.
"At this point, my understanding is that it's progressed to a stage where it's likely to occur," stated Postecoglou during his pre-match press conference. "At the very least, this gives us some clarity, and we will proceed without Harry."
"Regarding my standpoint, it's about comprehending our current situation. Presently, the information I have suggests that the deal is imminent. However, as is the case with such matters, maintaining some flexibility is essential."
"Nevertheless, as we move forward and participate in training today in preparation for Brentford, we'll be doing so without Harry."
'Utmost Priority'
Earlier on the same Friday, Bayern's manager, Thomas Tuchel, emphasized that the six-time European champions were diligently working on securing the deal, marking it as their "utmost priority."
Tuchel's team initiates their season by competing against RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup on Saturday, while the Bundesliga's commencement is scheduled for the subsequent weekend.
"We are exerting considerable effort towards it... this isn't a concealed fact," remarked the former Chelsea manager.
"However, currently, no decision has been reached. Until an agreement is reached, the coach will abstain from discussing the matter, as the player is not under his jurisdiction."
Kane has achieved a total of 280 goals across 435 matches for Spurs and has additionally secured his status as England's highest-scoring player with 58 international goals.
He remains 47 goals behind Alan Shearer's Premier League record of 260.
Kane has yet to secure a significant trophy at either club or international level.
He secured the title of top scorer at the 2018 World Cup, during which England advanced to the semi-finals.
In the 2022 Qatar tournament, they were eliminated by France in the quarter-finals, with Kane both scoring and missing a penalty when England was trailing 2-1 with just six minutes left on the clock.
Kane also played a role in his nation's journey to the final of the 2021 European Championship, where they were defeated by Italy in a penalty shootout.
Achieving success is almost certain at Bayern, who have clinched 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles.
However, the German powerhouse was in dire need of a striker following challenges in replacing Robert Lewandowski during the previous season. Lewandowski transferred to Barcelona at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season.
Throughout the eight seasons Lewandowski played for Munich, the club secured the Bundesliga title each time, with Lewandowski amassing 344 goals in 375 appearances.
