Jamie Carragher slams Liverpool's "embarrassing" transfer tactics after third bid for Romeo Lavia rejected
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has slammed his former club's transfer tactics after they reportedly had a third bid for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia rejected.
The Reds have been one of several clubs in the race to sign the 19-year-old, who is valued at £50 million by Southampton. Liverpool have already had two bids for Lavia rejected, the latest of which was worth £46 million.
Carragher believes that Liverpool should walk away from the negotiations if they are not willing to meet Southampton's asking price.
"This is embarrassing," Carragher wrote on Twitter. "If you don't think he's worth £50 million move on. If you really want him, pay it."
Carragher also questioned why Liverpool are not in for Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo, who is also valued at £50 million.
"Also not sure why LFC aren't in for Caicedo, yes it's a lot of money but Liverpool got big money for JH [Jordan Henderson] and FAB [Fabinho]."
Liverpool are in the market for a new midfielder after the departures of Henderson and Fabinho, who have both signed for clubs in Saudi Arabia.
The Reds are also looking to offload some of their fringe players in order to raise funds for new signings.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will return with a fourth bid for Lavia, or whether they will turn their attention to other targets.
However, Carragher's comments suggest that the club may need to be more decisive in their transfer dealings if they want to be successful in the coming season.
