The FA have released the following statement on Virgil van Dijk, confirming they have charged the defender with improper conduct.
The defender will serve his one-match suspension for the foul itself but it could be increased for an additional match, as per the Liverpool Echo. Overall, he could get a two-match ban — which is better than a four-game ban previously reported.
A two-match suspension will see Van Dijk miss the Aston Villa and Wolves games.
The Dutchman was sent off in the Newcastle game for a foul on Alexander Isak. He initially refused to leave the pitch and supposedly told the referee 'f***ing joke'.
