Chelsea, Roma agree Lukaku deal, details revealed
Reliable Matt Law reports that Chelsea and Roma have reached an agreement over a loan deal for Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian will join the Italian side on a season-long loan deal. The Seria A side will pay the Blues £5m as a loan fee.
The striker has agreed to lower his wages to join Roma. He will earn £6m a year — with a £13m-per-year wage at Chelsea, he'll take a £7m paycut.
It's now a matter of time before the official documents are signed and the transfer is announced.
The Blues have softened their stance as they had previously been unwilling to sanction a loan deal for Lukaku, insisting on a permanent transfer. But the prospect of keeping him for another year was apparently seen as too terrifying for Chelsea and they decided to allow him to leave on loan.
The 30-year-old remains contracted to Chelsea until June 2026.
It's curious that Lukaku will now be teammates with Tammy Abraham, whom Chelsea sold in 2021 to make way for the Belgian. Tammy is currently injured and will be out for several months — this is why Roma are signing Big Rom.
