Arteta confident Havertz will win over Arsenal fans: 'He's done some really good things
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has backed Kai Havertz to win over fans despite his poor performance in the 2-2 draw against Fulham on Saturday.
Havertz missed several chances and was generally poor in the build-up, leading to calls for him to be dropped. However, Arteta defended the German international, saying that he had done some "really good things" and that he just needed to "keep working hard".
"I think he’s already done some really good things and today it was tough for him in certain moments," Arteta said. "He got in some great areas again and the ball didn’t arrive and he had a lot of situations.
"He should have already scored a lot of goals already this season and that’s the thing that is missing there. But I think he’s doing the right things. He’s training really well and he’s a top player. He just needs to keep working hard and I’m sure he will come good."
Havertz joined Arsenal from Chelsea in the summer transfer window in a deal worth £72 million. He has made seven appearances for the Gunners so far, scoring one goal.
Arteta is confident that Havertz will eventually live up to his price tag and become a key player for Arsenal.
"I think he has the potential to be a top, top player," Arteta said. "He’s got all the qualities to do it. He’s very intelligent, he’s very good technically, he’s very strong and he’s got a lot of potential.
"He just needs to keep working hard and I’m sure he will come good."
