Al Ittihad Still Interested in Liverpool Defender Joe Gomez

Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad are still interested in signing Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Romano tweeted on August 29, 2023 that Gomez is "very high" on Al Ittihad's list of defensive targets. The club are said to be attracted to Gomez's versatility, as he can play at center-back, right-back, and left-back.

Liverpool have so far insisted that they have no intention of selling Gomez, but the situation could change if Al Ittihad make a significant offer. The 26-year-old is under contract with Liverpool until 2027, but he has struggled to break into the starting lineup in recent seasons.

Gomez impressed in Liverpool's 2-1 win over Newcastle on August 28, coming off the bench to help the team secure the victory. However, he is still considered a third- or fourth-choice center-back at Liverpool, behind Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, and Ibrahima Konate.

It remains to be seen whether Al Ittihad will be able to convince Liverpool to sell Gomez, but the club are clearly interested in the England international. The Saudi Arabian transfer window closes on September 20, so there is still time for a deal to be done.
