Lionel Messi debuted a new celebration in his first start for Inter Miami and performed it right in front of David Beckham.

The Lionel Messi era has begun in style for David Beckham’s Inter Miami, as the team cruised to a 4-0 win against Atlanta United in the Leagues Cup on Tuesday. In addition to his game-winning freekick against Cruz Azul last week, the Argentine superstar added two goals and an assist.

As one of the MLS’s expansion franchises tries to find its footing in the league, the addition of Messi was a statement signing for Beckham and the company. It is safe to assume that Messi, alongside Sergio Busquets, has had a transforming impact on the Floridian squad, which had only won only 1 of the 10 games prior to Messi’s arrival.

A video posted on Twitter by ESPN FC reveals Beckham’s close bond with his star player, as Messi celebrated his score against Atlanta by pointing to the sky before making a gesture at the Englishman, who applauded from the sidelines.

 Messi was given the number 10 jersey as well as the captaincy for Inter Miami and he has talked about Beckham’s role in convincing him to join Inter Miami after his sell at Paris Saint-Germain. Messi and Beckham were spotted conversing at the PSG training ground, with Beckham having spent time with the Parisian club during his spell in the MLS with LA Galaxy.
