Tottenham's Son Heung-min reveals he REJECTED a move to Saudi Arabia
Tottenham star Son Heung-min has revealed he rejected a move to Saudi Arabia as he wants to continue to prove himself at Spurs.
Son is one of a number of elite level Premier League players to have attracted interested from Saudi Arabia this summer. It had been reported that Al-Ettihad were preparing to offer the South Korean a bumper £25million-a-year pay deal as they looked to add him to their revamped squad, alongside the likes of Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kante.
But the 31-year-old opted to remain in north London with Harry Kane and Ange Postecoglou as the Lilywhites bid to improve on last season's disappointing campaign. Son, whose difficult season saw him score just 14 goals, admits he has unfinished business at the club who signed him from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.
"Probably if I wanted to go there I would be out there, not here," said Son to laughs from assembled journalists on Tottenham's pre-season tour of Australia."I love playing football, obviously money is also important. I dream of playing in the Premier League and still a lot of things behind [to do]. I’m looking forward to it this season and obviously especially last season when I suffered physically."So this is not Sonny that I know. I want to prove this season that I’m the Sonny that we all know. I want to prove that to myself and I want to give back to the club where I belong.
"Saudi obviously most people are going at the moment which is really, really interesting but it’s a dream for me to play in the Premier League and I’m looking forward to this season."
Son is looking forward to working under ex-Celtic boss Postecoglou, someone he has some shared history with.
"He’s been fantastic. We met first time in 2015," Son of the new gaffer.
"Obviously, we lost against Australia [in the Asia Cup final], so that wasn’t the best but I could see in that time they were playing fantastic. I’m really looking forward to playing under the gaffer."The training has been fantastic, really sharp, everyone looks really happy with what the gaffer has said. Everyone is working really hard so I’m looking forward to it. As soon as he was announced as manager I was really happy. We follow the Scottish League and Celtic was dominating."
