Spurs flop Perisic to terminate contract after one miserable year
Tottenham are reportedly ready to cut their losses with Ivan Perisic, who is being tipped for a return to his homeland this summer as he reaches the twilight of his career
Ivan Perisic’s Premier League nightmare could soon be over as Tottenham gears up to cut their losses on the Croatian.
The veteran utility man endured a poor campaign at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, despite getting plenty of game time, making more than 40 appearances. The 34-year-old joined as a free transfer from Inter Milan last summer and still has a year left on his contract.
But with new boss Ange Postecoglou set to overhaul his squad and implement a new, high-energy style of play, it is being reported Perisic’s deal could be terminated to allow him to join Hajduk Split, the club he supported in his youth.
According to Gianluca Dimarzio, Hajduk is “confident of finalizing an agreement” to bring Perisic back to his homeland, where he has never actually played in the domestic league.
If the move materializes, it would be welcomed by many Spurs fans, who are looking forward to a fresh start under Postecoglou.
“That’s big money saved on wages,” said one fan. Another added: “If he wishes to leave I'd let him.”
A third said: “Ayyyy another one bites the dust. Had such high hopes and he was so underwhelming.”
Meanwhile, a fourth joked: “Ivan bro.. Have a word in an Eric Dier ear and let him know a contract termination is possible. Thanks, all Spurs.”
Another fan said: “His disaster class at the Etihad last season still gives me nightmares. Get rid! ” A sixth added: “More deadwood out the door."
If Perisic stays put, it seems unlikely he would secure much game time under the former Celtic boss. He would not get a chance at left-back, while there are other options ahead of him in attacking positions.
