Son Heung-min 'Looking Forward' to Playing Attacking Football Under Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou was quick to tease Son Heung-min when football.london asked the attacker what he had made of the new Tottenham boss while the South Korean also emphatically shut down any talk of him leaving the north London club.

Son arrived in Australia before Tottenham's tour squad arrived on Saturday night, having flown direct from Korea in order to save him needing to undertake two long-haul flights across the world within a matter of days. So the 31-year-old has only begin working with Postecoglou in recent days, although the new Spurs head coach has admitted speaking to Son before.

The South Korea captain equalised against the then Postecoglou-managed Australia in the 2015 Asian Cup final to send the game to extra-time before the Aussies fought back to win.

When football.london asked Son what he had made of his early discussions with Postecoglou, while he was sitting next to the Spurs boss, the Australian quickly jumped in with a smile and said: "Only good things mate, only good things!"

A laughing Son then went on to say: "He’s been fantastic. We met for the first time in 2015. Obviously, we lost against Australia so that wasn’t the best but I could see in that time they were playing fantastic.

"I’m really looking forward to playing under the gaffer. The training has been fantastic, really sharp, everyone looks really happy with what the gaffer has said. Everyone is working really hard so I’m looking forward to it."

When the South Korean mentioned that Asian Cup final loss, Postecoglou put his arm around him and gave him a pat on the back as consolation.

Son admitted that he is relishing the attacking football the new Spurs head coach is set to bring to the club.

"I’m looking forward to it. As soon as he was announced as manager I was really happy. We follow the Scottish league and Celtic was dominating the league," he said.

"I’m really looking forward to it. It brings back 2015… but I’m just looking forward to helping the team, getting the club where it belongs. I’m looking forward to playing amazing attacking football. I hope we can make special things all together."

Son has been linked with a move to join the exodus of players heading for the Saudi league and the riches the game over there is offering, but he was quick to shut down any such talk.

"Probably if I wanted to go there I would be out there, not here. (Laughs) I love playing football, obviously money is also important. I dream of playing in the Premier League and still a lot of things to do," he said.

"I'm looking forward to it this season and obviously especially last season when I suffered physically. So this is not Sonny that I know. I want to prove this season that I'm the Sonny that we all know.

"I want to prove that to myself and I want to give back to the club where I belong. Saudi obviously most people are going at the moment which is really, really interesting but it's a dream for me to play in the Premier League and I'm looking forward to this season."
