Rooney jokes that Kane is being 'held as a prisoner' at Tottenham
Wayne Rooney has joked that Tottenham have been holding Harry Kane "like a prisoner" while urging Manchester United to go back in for the England skipper.
Wayne Rooney has compared Harry Kane's situation at Tottenham to that of a prisoner - and said that he'd be ideal for Manchester United.
The DC United boss, who is United's record goalscorer, gave his thoughts on the future of Kane as the 29-year-old is again linked with a move away from Spurs - this time to Bayern Munich.
Rooney, 37, thought Kane would've been allowed to leave his boyhood club last summer, despite chairman Daniel Levy's firm stance over his future, having done doing everything in his power to help them win trophies in recent seasons.

In an extended interview with The Athletic in which he called Kane the "ideal player" for United, Rooney also said that the forward has been "held as a prisoner".
He added:
"I thought it was time to go last season and he stayed."Harry’s probably feeling that and knows there are trophies out there for him to win. He has done everything he can for that to try and be at Tottenham."Now probably is right for him to move on and it looks like ready for that as well, but we know Tottenham can be quite difficult at times."
Kane has scored 354 goals at senior level for club and country without winning a single major trophy.
Rooney joined United as a teenager from Everton and went on to win five Premier League titles as well as four domestic cups and the Champions League in 2008.
Kane has been the subject of two bids from Bayern with just a year remaining on his contract, after Thomas Tuchel's men wrapped up an 11th consecutive Bundesliga title.
In a bid to force Tottenham's hand, supervisory board member Uli Hoeness insisted that the player is also keen to join.
"Kane has clearly signalled in all conversations that his decision stands – and if it stays, then we'll get him," Hoeness told Sport1."He wants to play in Europe and luckily for us, Tottenham will not be next year. He now has another opportunity to come to a top club in Europe."
