Real Madrid 'plot major sale' to fund five-year Mbappe deal
Real Madrid have made progress in their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe by agreeing a five-year-deal with the French forward, yet it remains to be seen whether they go all out to sign the PSG man this summer
Real Madrid are reportedly plotting a major sale to fund their proposed move for Kylian Mbappe - with personal terms supposedly agreed already.
The departure of veteran forward Karim Benzema has turned the Spanish giants’ attention to securing long-time target Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.
Los Blancos have already reportedly agreed personal terms with the French superstar, offering him a five-year deal worth £43 million-a-year and slapping on a €1bn (£850m) release clause, according to Cadena Ser.
Yet there are contrasting reports on whether Madrid will look to complete the signing this summer by meeting PSG’s whopping £170m valuation - or wait to sign the 24-year-old on a free transfer in a year’s time.
Mbappe has just one year left on his current deal, which he signed last year, after which he becomes a free agent. However, reports claim the La Liga club’s president Florentino Perez is looking to immediately raise funds through big sales in order to get the biggest transfer on the planet over the line.
Speaking on Radio Marca, Spanish journalist Juan Ignacio G-Ochoa said Madrid will sell one of midfield duo Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni, who only joined the Bernabeu side in 2022 for £85m.
ESPN reporter Rodrigo Faez has backed up the claim by saying: “I said before that I’d bet 95% of my salary that Mbappe will join Real Madrid this summer. Now I say 96%.”
Various outlets have contradicted that by stating Perez is not interested in parting ways with either Tchouameni nor Valverde, who played a crucial role in Los Blancos winning their 14th Champions League title in 2022.
Arsenal’s reported interest in the former is believed to come from the departure of Granit Xhaka and the uncertain future of Thomas Partey. Spanish outlet Defensa Central state Mikel Arteta has "raised" his offer for Tchouameni to £78m, having deemed the Frenchman a priority.
Meanwhile, El Nacional claimed in June that Liverpool launched a £77m bid for Valverde.
Yet GIVEMESPORT has played down talks of the former by stating: "My understanding is that Arsenal doesn't have a serious interest in Tchouameni. Even if they did, they know he's unlikely to be leaving Real Madrid anytime soon."
The 23-year-old played 50 games for the La Liga side last season as they won the Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
