Mexico fan stabbed and pouring with blood during Gold Cup match as police spark manhunt

A Mexico fan was left a bloody mess after being stabbed during a Gold Cup match.

During the country's 1-0 loss to Qatar, fights broke out among Mexico fans in the stands of Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Videos of the brawls went viral on social media as one man could be seen approaching the feuding fans with a suspected sharp object in his hand before shoving it into the crowd of supporters.

One fan was left with a bloody face and had blood pouring from his chest as he used his shirt to attempt to stop the bleeding.

The individual was taken to hospital where police say he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Following the incident, Santa Clara Police announced that they've identified a suspect who is between the ages 25-35, with short dark hair, a thin moustache and a beard.

They now join Mexico, USA, and Jamaica in the last four in the competition.

This wasn't the first time controversy marred a football game for Mexico as just last month their CONCACAF Nations League semi-final was cut short due to homophonic chanting by Mexican fans.

In what was a 3-0 loss due to a brace from Christian Pulisic and a goal from Ricardo Pepi, the game was stopped in the 90th minute due to the chanting.

After 12 minutes of stoppage time was given, the discriminatory chants continued which forced Salvadoran referee Ivan Barton to call off the game early.

USA interim head coach BJ Callaghan slammed the chants after the game saying that it "has no place in the game"

"In terms of the chant, I want to make it very clear first and foremost, for our beliefs and our culture, it has no place in the game, It has no place in our value system," he said.
