Mason Greenwood shares first Instagram post in over a year to announce birth of child
Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has taken to social media to announce the birth of his first child with his girlfriend, with the baby arriving on Tuesday
Mason Greenwood and his girlfriend have announced they've given birth to their first child.
Greenwood made the announcement on Instagram, posting a picture of the couple holding the hand of the new arrival. The caption simply read '11.07.23' with a white heart emoji.
The date posted suggests the baby was born on Tuesday. It is the first picture posted on the social media platform by Greenwood, 21, since January 2022, and within 20 minutes of being uploaded had attracted over 52,000 likes.
Only this week, Greenwood was pictured undergoing fitness work with Manchester United teammate Anthony Elanga. He remains sidelined by the club though, with an internal investigation ongoing.
Greenwood was suspended by United in January 2022 after being arrested on suspicion of rape and assault on a woman. He was further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill - but in February this year the charges were subsequently dropped.
After the development, it was confirmed that Greenwood's partner was pregnant, and that the 21-year-old and his family were preparing for the birth of his first child. The couple have not publicly revealed the gender of the child.
Greenwood is currently being linked with a move away from United, but neither a transfer or loan move have materialised yet for the former England international. A switch to the Serie A appears the most likely outcome, with Atalanta, Roma, and Juventus all registering their interest.

Greenwood has one England cap to his name, appearing as a substitute in a 1-0 away in Iceland back in September 2020. However, two days later he and Phil Foden were withdrawn from the squad after breaking Covid-19 quarantine guidelines.
He was unable to force his way back into the squad thereafter, although manager Gareth Southgate didn't initially rule out a recall, saying: "He is in our thoughts, I've spoken with him and his club, he is a player we really like."
