Man Utd sign £47m Onana as De Gea's long-term replacement
In a significant move for their summer rebuild, Manchester United has successfully secured the signing of Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper has committed to a five-year contract at Old Trafford, making him the club's new first-choice keeper, taking over from David de Gea, who departed United when his contract expired last month.
Andre Onana, a talented player from Cameroon, arrives at United after spending just one season with Inter Milan. During his time there, he demonstrated his skills in 41 appearances across various competitions and achieved an impressive 19 clean sheets.
His remarkable performances were instrumental in helping Inter Milan reach the Champions League final, where they unfortunately fell to a 1-0 defeat against their rivals, Manchester City. Additionally, Inter secured a commendable third-place finish in Serie A.
Interestingly, Onana joined Inter Milan only last summer on a free transfer, following his departure from Ajax, where he amassed 214 appearances.
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United has agreed to pay Inter an initial fee of €51m (£43.8m) for Onana, with the potential for additional €4m (£3.4m) in add-ons based on both individual and club performance. This substantial investment highlights the club's determination to reinforce their squad for the upcoming season.
Onana is set to earn around £115,000 per week at Old Trafford - less than a third of what De Gea was on.
He becomes the club's second signing of the summer following Mason Mount's £55m move from Chelsea.
After signing fro the club, Onana said: "To join Manchester United is an incredible honour and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way.
"Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience. This is the start of a new journey for me, with new teammates, and new ambitions to fight for."
