Man Utd poach key Arsenal staff member in huge blow to Mikel Arteta

Manchester United's offer to Arsenal's head of medical services proved 'too good to refuse' as he prepares to switch sides this summer.

Gary O'Driscoll joined the Gunners way back in 2009 and has been a highly respected staff member - rejecting several offers to leave in the past.

O'Driscoll came close to joining Liverpool in 2020 but chose to stay in north London, a stay that has been brought to an end by a bumper offer from United.

The 52-year-old will help integrate a successor at Arsenal before leaving the club - coming as a blow to Mikel Arteta.

The Athletic report that the offer to O'Driscoll was too good to refuse, adding that the situation played out amicably.

O'Driscoll featured in All Or Nothing: Arsenal, which was show on Prime Video back in 2022, discussing how Kieran Tierney got injured when stepping out a shower.

United have been on the lookout for a new doctor since Steve McNally departed in December, with Jim Moxon taking the role on an interim basis.

An Arsenal fan posted on Twitter: "He was close to joining Liverpool a while ago. He is based in the North West, so it makes sense. The club will have a plan."

A second added: "He is moving closer to his family. It’s calm."

A rival supporter then joked: "Signing a new doctor to try and keep Anthony Martial fit instead of buying an actual striker is peak Man Utd."

United finished third in the Premier League table last season, one place behind Arsenal - and have since strengthened their squad.

Mason Mount has joined from Chelsea with Andre Onana linked from Inter Milan after their Champions League return.

Arsenal are set to announce a move for Declan Rice having agreed a club record deal with West Ham, with Jurrien Timber also on the way in.
