Liverpool plot move for Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure to replace Fabinho

Liverpool are supposedly looking into a shocking transfer for Crystal Palace star Cheick Doucoure. Jurgen Klopp and the Reds eye more midfield recruits as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho transfers are imminent.

The Anfield giants could see both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho move to Saudi Arabia this summer. Earlier in this transfer window, the club let go of James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the midfield department.

However, they also brought in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai as midfield reinforcements. Still, the transfer of the two senior and experienced midfielders can hit the Reds hard in the near future.

Jordan Henderson is in the advanced stages of talks with Al-Ettifaq and will soon be joining the Saudi side. Moreover, as per recent developments, Saudi’s club are already planning medicals this week.

Fabinho is also on the radar of Al-Ittihad and is all set to leave Liverpool this week, as per football journalist Neil Jones.

So from these two deals, Liverpool will expectedly make around £50M. And now they need to spend this money carefully on signing a new defensive midfielder.

Players like Romeo Lavia, Sofyan Amrabat, and Ryan Gravenberch are already on their wanted list. But there is a new name that has surfaced in the latest reports.

Liverpool identify Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure as their new target

According to a new report via Football Insider, Doucoure has ‘caught the eye of the Anfield transfer chiefs’ after a great debut season at Crystal Palace. The 23-year-old joined the Eagles last summer on a deal worth £21M from Lens.

He usually operates as a defensive midfielder and tackling, interceptions, and passing are his best attributes.

The Malian footballer put most tackles and interceptions compared to any other Crystal Palace player and was fourth in the PL for most interceptions last season.

The Mali international appeared in 35 matches across all competitions for Palace and although he has not scored yet, he has assisted 3 goals.

And defensively the Bamako-born player has averaged 2.3 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game (Stats via WhoScored).

It is clearly evident that he has quite literally established himself in the PL in just one season. And Liverpool needs a reliant physical presence in their midfield. So they should probably go all in for this deal.

However, there is no particular price tag on the 23-year-old just now. Transfermarkt has valued him at £35M although this would probably be not the final price for the midfielder. The Malian still has four years left on his contract.

And looking at the situation of the market, Palace might charge the Reds a hefty amount. So Liverpool might be a little hesitant at the moment and will be waiting for the transfer of their other targets.
