Laura Woods' next job revealed after fan favourite's emotional talkSPORT goodbye

Laura Woods’ next job has been revealed following her tearful talkSPORT goodbye.

The football presenter, 36, confirmed she would be leaving her six-year role as host on the breakfast radio show last month.

She bid farewell in an emotional final appearance alongside co-host Ally McCoist, where she broke down into tears after an elderly caller recited a heartfelt poem to her.

Woods has since been linked with a role on TNT Sports’ (former BT Sport) Champions League coverage. But her latest role has now been confirmed as a new gig with ITV.

The Arsenal fan will lead the broadcaster’s coverage of the Women’s World Cup when it gets underway on July 20. She will be in Australia and New Zealand to cover the 64-game tournament, having held a similar role with ITV during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Joining Woods is a star-studded line-up which includes Eni Aluko, Jill Scott, Emma Hayes, Karen Carney, Fran Kirby, Lucy Ward, Emma Byrne, Vicky Losada, Jen Beattie and Siobhan Chamberlain.

Meanwhile, the commentary team will consist of Seb Hutchinson, Sam Matterface, Tom Gayle and Pien Meulensteen.

ITV Director of Sport Niall Sloane said: “I'm delighted we have been able to assemble a squad of some of the biggest names in the game for our comprehensive coverage of the Women’s World Cup across ITV and ITVX.

"Viewers are at the heart of our coverage and our team will provide expertise, fantastic insight and the very best analysis of the action at what, with the popularity of women’s football continuing to grow, promises to be the biggest tournament yet."

It comes after an emotional Woods announced she was taking the next step in her career, saying: "You lot, our listeners, have given me so much comfort and guided me through some of my toughest moments, without even realising it.

"So I wanted to thank you personally for that. I will miss it dearly. Even the Spurs fans.

“For what feels like a lifetime I’ve been a listener of talkSPORT. For the last six years it’s been my home, where we get to spend our mornings talking about sport. There’s nothing better. I know I will never find a job like this. It’s unique."
