Lahm: Gündoğan and Modrić are the 'sum of everything a modern midfielder needs to be'
Phillip Lahm, the former Bayern Munich and Germany captain, has labeled Ilkay Gündoğan and Luka Modrić as two icons of the modern game.
Lahm made the comments in an interview in which he was asked to name two indispensable players in the world of football today.
"I would say Ilkay Gündoğan and Luka Modrić," Lahm said. "They are two players who have everything: technique, passing, vision, and leadership. They are the sum of everything a modern midfielder needs to be."
Gündoğan and Modrić are both experienced and accomplished players who have won numerous trophies at club and international level. Gündoğan has won four Premier League titles with Manchester City, while Modrić has won four Champions League titles with Real Madrid.
They are also both key players for their respective national teams. Gündoğan has won 50 caps for Germany, while Modrić has won 150 caps for Croatia.
Lahm is not the only person who has praised Gündoğan and Modrić. Former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has called Gündoğan "one of the best midfielders in the world," while former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has said that Modrić is "the best player in the world."
Gündoğan and Modrić are two of the most respected players in world football, and Lahm's comments are a testament to their quality. They are both indispensable players for their clubs and countries, and they will continue to be key figures in the years to come.
