Veteran Sky Sports reporter Geoff Shreeves has quit the broadcaster after reportedly rejecting a pay cut.

Shreeves has worked on Sky's coverage of the Premier League since its inception in 1992. He was offered the opportunity to carry on next season, albeit with a reduced salary.

However, the 58-year-old has instead opted to walk away and will be leaving with immediate effect. A tweet from the Sky Sports Twitter account read: "Tunnel reporter Geoff Shreeves is leaving Sky Sports.

"He’s been an integral part of the Sky Sports football team for over 30 years. Geoff leaves with our sincere thanks and best wishes for the future."

According to the Daily Mail, he has already received other offers which he is considering. And he's expected to be back on our TV screens soon.

Sky are looking to cut costs this summer which is why Shreeves has left. He was only full of praise for his former employer, though, telling the Mail: "There's an old saying that you always have to know the best time to leave even the greatest party.

"And that's what my thirty two years at Sky have been - the most fantastic party I could ever imagined attending.

"From the first kick of a ball in the live coverage of the Premier League to Manchester City's title celebrations last season, with plenty in between. I have been incredibly fortunate to work for a ground-breaking company who have helped revolutionise football.

"But the time is right to move on. Sky have been incredibly generous in recognition of my service and I can't speak more highly of so many people I've worked with there over three decades."

Shreeves began his career at Sky as a floor manager in 1991, going on to become their most-trusted reporter. He was their ears on the ground in his role on the touchline.

Sky are undergoing a major period of transition in their football department. Legendary Soccer Saturday host Jeff Stelling has departed, as too has long-time lead commentator Martin Tyler - who's been replaced by Peter Drury.

As well as that, they made the decision to axe Saturday morning show Soccer AM at the end of last season and are set to have a major shake-up of their on-screen staff.

It was previously claimed last month that Guy Havord, Dickie Davis, Bianca Westwood, Greg Whelan, Lynsey Hooper and Jaydee Dyer would all be leaving. They'll be following Graeme Souness out the door after his departure.
