Ex- Man United great Ryan Giggs labelled 'rat' by his own father
Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs' estranged father Danny Wilson has given some strong views on his son, branding him a 'rat' for having an affair with his brother Rhodri's wife
Ryan Giggs’ estranged father has branded his son a ‘rat’ – while admitting he was a serial cheater himself.
Giggs was due to go on trial for a second time, accused of controlling or coercive behaviour towards his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville, 39, between August 2017 and November 2020. He denied the offences and underwent a month-long trial, which ended last August when the jury failed to reach any verdicts.
Prosecutors were granted an application for a retrial, scheduled to begin on July 31, but that has now been abandoned after lawyers withdrew the prosecution.
It is understood that Giggs is now hoping to revive his managerial career, having stepped down as Wales boss ahead of last year’s World Cup.
The 49-year-old’s private life has made headlines on several occasions during and since he called time on his illustrious playing career. Back in 2011, it was revealed he had been having an affair with his brother Rhodri’s wife.
Giggs’ father, Danny Wilson, has given his take on his son’s adultery, and he didn’t hold back, while discussing his own past behaviour.

"The rat. I can’t understand how anyone could do that to his brother,” Wilson told the Daily Mail.
“I read about it in a Sunday paper, jumped in my car and zoomed up the M4 towards Manchester. God knows what I’d have done to him but it wouldn’t have been nice.
“I was pulled over for speeding twice and the second time I said to the copper, ‘I’m Ryan Giggs’ dad’ and he could see that I was mad with him. He said, ‘I won’t give you a ticket, but just take five minutes’ break then turn round and go back home,’ which I did.”
In the same interview, Wilson admitted to being regularly unfaithful to Giggs’ mother, Lynne Giggs, with the couple divorcing in the late-80s.
“I’ve been faithful to my current partner Dawn, but before that, no. I wasn’t,” said Wilson. “Not with any of my former partners. Aren’t most guys like that? We’ve all had a few girlfriends.
“I’d settled down with Dawn by my 40s. Ryan should be surrounding himself with better people, getting a grip, calming down. Everything’s been given to him on a plate since he was 15.”
Wilson reckons Giggs has a sense of entitlement but wishes they were still in touch. Aside from one brief meeting, the pair haven’t spoken for 33 years.
“No one has ever challenged him. If I’d been allowed to see him I wouldn’t have let him behave like this,” he said.
“Although I went to see him train and play after the split [from Lynne], he was always off-ish with me. He didn’t want me around.”
After a period of estrangement from Rhodri too, Wilson says he is now ‘friends’ with his younger son.

“I don’t think he’ll listen to me after all these years, but I hope he becomes more humble,” said Wilson of Ryan. “I hope he learns some lessons. He must be unhappy to do what he’s doing. I hope he apologises to his brother and makes up with him. Life is too short.
“I feel sorry for him. He’s still my kid. And whatever they do, you don’t stop loving them.”
