Edwin van der Sar no longer in intensive care as Man Utd legend offers update
Edwin van der Sar has issued an update after he was admitted to hospital two weeks ago with a bleed on his brain.
The former Manchester United and Ajax goalkeeper was in intensive care, but he has now shared on social media that he is out and will go home next week to recover. Van der Sar was taken to hospital while he was on holiday in Croatia.
Former Netherlands goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has been moved out of intensive care following a bleed on the brain.
The ex-Manchester United and Ajax goalkeeper, 52, was taken to hospital while on holiday in Croatia before he was transferred to a Dutch hospital.
He has now revealed he is still in hospital, but is no longer in the intensive care unit.
"I'm happy to share that I'm no longer in the intensive care unit," Van der Sar said in a statement on Twitter.
"However, I'm still in hospital. I hope to go home next week and take the next step in my recovery."
His wife Annemarie van Kesteren said in a statement issued by Ajax last week that her husband was "not in life-threatening danger".
First of all, we want to thank everyone for all the great and supportive messages.

Van der Sar made 266 appearances for Manchester United, winning three Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League.
Van der Sar stepped down from his role as Ajax chief executive in May after they failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 14 years.
"After almost eleven years on the board, I am done," Van der Sar said in a statement at the time.
"We have experienced wonderful things together, but it has also been an incredibly tough period.
"I am very grateful for the people I have met and worked with during my second career at Ajax, and what we have achieved and been through together. I feel the need to take some distance, to get some rest, and to do other things.
"It doesn’t feel good to take decisions about the future of this wonderful club in the coming period. That is why I have decided to resign."
