Tottenham 'contact Man Utd over Harry Maguire' as Ange Postecoglou confirmed as manager
Tottenham have contacted Manchester United over a potential transfer deal for Harry Maguire, according to a new report.
The report arrives on the same day that Ange Postecoglou was appointed Spurs boss on a four-year contract. He will begin the job on July 1, once his 12-month rolling contract at Celtic expires.
Postecoglou is the first Australian to take charge in the Premier League, with his career having spanned across spells in Australia, Greece, Japan and Scotland, as well as managing the Australia national team.
In a statement on the club's website, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said: "Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy - everything that is important to our Club.
"We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead."
Now, the Australian could seal his first summer signing in due course.
The Daily Mail claim that Spurs have 'made checks' on Maguire's current situation ahead of a possible bid once the transfer window opens.
It is added that Postecoglou will play a key role in recruitment this summer, and the appointment of the 59-year-old will see Spurs' transfer plans speed up after a period of managerial uncertainty.
The report claims that centre-back is a transfer priority for Spurs this summer, and they are also looking at Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
Maguire has been a fringe player for much of the campaign under Erik ten Hag at United.
