Sergio Rico health update as PSG star remains in 'serious' condition in hospital
Sergio Rico's health is improving - but he remains in "serious" condition after being admitted to the ICU after falling from his horse when taking part in annual pilgrimage
PSG goalkeeper Sergio Rico is still in a serious condition, but the Sevilla hospital he is in have noted his health is improving.
Rico was admitted to intensive care after a horse riding accident when participating in an annual pilgrimage in the El Rocio region of Huelva, Spain. The hospital said: "The medical team has completely stopped Sergio Rico's sedation and for the moment he is evolving favourably."
However, the statement adds “his condition remains serious and he continues to be placed in intensive care." Earlier this week, his wife told the local press: "Step by step. Little by little. We have a lot of confidence in the professionals at the Virgen del Rocio."
PSG issued a statement after the accident: "Paris Saint-Germain learned of the accident involving its player Sergio Rico on Sunday and remains in constant contact with his loved ones. The entire Red and Blue community offers them its full support."
Rico's wife had also relayed a heartbreaking message on social media days after the accident: "Don’t leave me alone, my love, because I swear I cannot. I don’t know how to live without you. We love you a lot."
There has been an outpouring of support from the Parisian giants too, and over the weekend PSG fans chanted his name during their clash with Clermont Foot 63. While Kylian Mbappe produced Rico's jersey after he scored.
Rico has played for PSG since 2020, spending last season out on loan at RCD Mallorca, but he's been primarily used as a backup option.
The Spaniard spent time in the Premier League with Fulham, where he spent the 18/19 season on loan at the Cottagers. Rico is best known for his spell with Sevilla - where he won two Europa League titles.
