Scotland vs Georgia descends into chaos after torrential rain waterlogs pitch
Scotland's momentum in their European Championship qualification group was halted by a huge downpour of rain which for a while forced their clash against Georgia to be stopped
Scotland's Euro 2024 qualification match against Georgia turned into chaos as torrential rain forced the clash to be suspended after only 10 minutes.
Their clash was initially given the thumbs up by referee Istan Vad who believed the pitch was in a playable condition. Despite the awful weather conditions, Callum McGregor's wondergoal in the first half gave the hosts a well deserved lead.
The rain, however, continued to cause havoc, and the Hungarian referee ultimately suspended the contest. Ground staff at Hampden Park returned to the pitch and did everything they could to get the water off the pitch.
And after they tried every trick in the book, the officials decided the match would be restarted at 9.15pm. However, Georgia appeared to initially refuse to come back out. After Scotland's players went back inside, Georgia finally re-emerged, and to plenty of boos around the stadium. The match was then confirmed to be restarting at 9.35pm.
To make the pitch playable again, one member of the ground staff even brought a leaf blower out to try and blow some of the water off the pitch.
Either way, it was a very unwelcome obstacle for Steve Clarke's in-form Scots. They are enjoying a 100% start to their campaign in Group A. The positivity and excitement at Hampden Park was clear to see in the atmosphere before the match.

Scotland are currently top of Group A having began the campaign with three consecutive victories. They began with a routine 3-0 victory over familiar foes Cyprus.
This was then followed up with an extraordinary 2-0 victory over Spain, that was secured by a surprise brace from Manchester United ace Scott McTominay.
In their next match, they bounced back from an emphatic penalty from Manchester City Treble hero Erling Haaland to overcome Norway 2-1 in Oslo. Scotland missed out on a place in the 2022 World Cup but they did end 22 years of hurt by qualifying for Euro 2020.
While their spirited 0-0 draw against England at Wembley was a high point, they failed to reach the knockout stages after losing to Czech Republic and Croatia in their other group matches.
Should Scotland's game be called off for the night, the match will be continued on Wednesday evening either at St Mirren's ground or Hampden Park again, and it will carry on from where it was paused - meaning McGregor's goal and the 1-0 lead will stand either way.
