Romeo Beckham 'set for permanent Prem transfer
Romeo Beckham looks poised to join Premier League club Brentford after impressing during a spell last season – but he’s only been offered a short-term deal
Romeo Beckham is reportedly set to join Brentford on a permanent basis.
The 20-year-old son of former Manchester United legend David is set to join Brentford in the Premier League after impressing during a six-month spell with the Bees’ ‘B’ team last season.
Romeo previously played for David’s co-owned team Inter Miami in the MLS but the deal will see him released from his contract with the US club.
The Mirror reports that Brentford will pay a nominal fee to Miami and Beckham will sign just a one-year contract for the duration of the 2023/24 campaign.
Romeo was previously a part of Arsenal’s academy and was occasionally spotted alongside his dad watching the Gunners. Romeo later re-emerged onto the footballing scene in 2021 when he joined Inter Miami.
The move was far from surprising given David’s role at Miami but there’s no denying the next-generation winger has talent as he looks to carve out a Premier League career in West London.
His famous dad David lifted six Premier League trophies whilst at Old Trafford alongside two FA Cups and the Champions League – where he played a vital part in United winning the treble in 1999.
After leaving Manchester, David played for Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and PSG before retiring in 2013, soon exercising his option to buy an MLS expansion team in 2014 as part of his original deal to join LA Galaxy – seeing Inter Miami make their MLS debut in 2020.
Romeo’s move caused a stir when he joined Brentford’s ‘B’ team last season after he scored twice and registered ten assists in 20 games in the MLS Next Pro, but Bees’ director Phil Giles previously insisted it was no PR stunt signing the 115-capped England star’s son - as Romeo went to lift the Premier League Cup with the reserve team.
Whilst Thomas Frank previously said: "Romeo is a very good player, of course he has a name that is pretty worldwide. For Romeo, he is himself, but he of course has a big name.
"He is here for a reason, because we think he is a good player, and we are pleased he could make the loan deal. [We are] pleased to see him doing well, pleased to see the performance he had in the last game."
Romeo will now be given the chance to follow in his dad’s footsteps and grace the Premier League next season should he continue to impress at Brentford.
