Tammy Abraham faces the rest of 2023 on the sidelines after suffering a horror knee injury in Roma's last game of the season.

The 25-year-old landed awkwardly on his left leg just 17 minutes after coming on during Sunday's 2-1 win against Spezia.

Abraham could be seen visibly upset as he left the pitch on a medical cart.

Italian news outlet Il Messaggero have claimed that the England international was in tears as he departed the Stadio Olimpico.

Abraham was instantly taken to a private clinic, with doctors confirming the worst possible news for the ex-Chelsea striker.

According to Sky Sport Italy, the results showed that Abraham has picked up an ACL injury.

It has been said that Abraham could now be out of action until December with the player to require surgery.

The newspaper has also insisted this will have major implications on a potential summer departure, as they labelled it as now 'impossible'.

A move back to the Premier League had been mooted, with Roma believed to be willing to sell him for £35million.

Meanwhile Chelsea boast a buy-back option after selling him to Roma in 2021, with Mauricio Pochettino known to be keen on bolstering his attack.

But a potential move away from Rome will likely now have to wait until 2024.

It's been an underwhelming season in front of goal for Abraham, who found the back of the net 27 times in all competitions last campaign.

He has scored just nine goals this term, with eight coming in Serie A as Roma secured Europa League football at the expense of Juventus.

Manchester United have sent scouts to see him in action this term, while Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with an interest.

Abraham failed to become the first player to win every major European tournament last week after his side were defeated by Sevilla on penalties in the Europa League final.
