Psychologist Dr Meg Arroll has claimed that Mason Mount’s new hairstyle could see the Chelsea man re-find his confidence.

Mount posted on Instagram his new bleach blonde look as he posed whilst on holiday which saw England team-mate and Leicester City midfielder James Maddison compare him to Eminem.

It follows a difficult season for Chelsea in which the 24-year-old managed just three goals and six assists in 35 games – playing just one Premier League game since February due to injury and a lack of form.

Mount previously withdrew from the England squad in March due to his injury problems and has again been omitted from the latest squad to face Malta and North Macedonia in the European Championship qualifiers.

With a summer of rest ahead of Mount, psychologist Dr Arroll, in partnership with Jerome Russell, claimed that Mount’s new look could be what he needs to regain his self belief ahead of next season, Dr Arroll said: “A drastic change can boost confidence as it makes someone stand out from the crowd, to gain attention and positive feedback.

“Any change to our appearance can have a significant impact on how we feel about ourselves, including how confident we feel. These tweaks to hair, clothing and overall ‘look’ can also signal to the wider world beliefs around our identity and how we’d like to be viewed by others.

“The important part here is how this change makes us feel about ourselves and this new look could be a boost to self-belief, trickling over to the game.

“This might in theory not only affect a person's game but impact the way their teammates and opposing teams view them.

“In a world full of things beyond our control, changing our hair is something that we can do – and have fun with.

“Blonde hair is also associated with summer and the carefree time during the warmest and sunniest part of the year. Hence, we can use these visual cues to boost mood which is key to confidence.”

Another fresh change for Mount could come later on in the summer with the attacking midfielder continuing to be heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

It was previously claimed that he had agreed personal terms at Old Trafford ahead of a potential summer move but a £70million fee demanded by Chelsea for their out-of-form man who also has one year left on his contract, is so far unsurprisingly putting United off.
