Paul Scholes' knee left in pieces from painful Soccer Aid injury after Old Trafford goal
Soccer Aid goalscorer Paul Scholes only managed 16 minutes of action before being taken off injured at Old Trafford, with England going on to lose 4-2 to the World XI
Paul Scholes has revealed his knee is "f***ed" from his Soccer Aid injury - but insisted it was worth it to score at Old Trafford again.
The Manchester United legend lasted just 16 minutes on the pitch during the annual charity match on Sunday (June 11). Having come on at half-time, he scored one of England's two goals in eight minutes against the World XI to put them 2-1 ahead.
Scholes was then forced off with injury shortly after, appearing to be in some pain as he was tended to on the pitch before being helped down the tunnel by the medical staff.
He took to Instagram to update his 921k followers on his condition earlier today, reposting a video of his strike on his story and writing: "Knee’s f***ed but couldn’t give two s***s…
"Nothing will ever give me a better feeling than playing in front of a full house at OT and scoring a goal. Great couple of days with some very funny people."
While his goal was a joyous moment for him and all of the Red Devils fans in attendance, Scholes wasn't happy in the build-up to match.
He was irked by the blue and white Soccer Aid flags given out to the crowd to wave, given it was 24 hours on from United's neighbouring rivals Man City winning the Champions League and matching their treble accomplishment.
“Somebody has to be taking the p*** with these flags,” Scholes posted on social media. Despite his goal putting England ahead, the World XI went on to win the contest 4-2 and for the fifth time in a row thanks to goals from Usain Bolt, Robbie Keane (two) and Kem Cetinay.
