Newcastle's summer transfer budget revealed, fans are shocked
Newcastle United’s budget for the upcoming summer transfer window has reportedly been revealed.
After a stunning campaign under the leadership of Eddie Howe, the Magpies secured a place in next season’s Champions League.
Backed by their Saudi-led ownership, Newcastle are expected to spend big in order to build a squad capable of challenging on all fronts.
So far, the club have spent £250 million in three transfer windows, spending big on the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Newcastle will only have around £70-£80 million to spend this summer.
It has been claimed that current Financial Fair Play calculations meant their budget is lower than what many people expected.
However, selling a number of first-team players will help increase the budget to buy players. The likes of Allan Saint-Maximin and Jacob Murphy have been linked with moves away.
Fans were quick to react to the news on social media.
One said: “IS THAT IT???”
Another tweeted: “Not a fan of Newcastle, but this is a joke. Either cap spending equally across the board, or let everyone spend what they have.”
A third fan added: “Well if we are only spending £75m, then expect a struggle to retain a top 4 place as we will be on bare bones unless we invest more into the squad.”
Someone else wrote: “If it is £75m, after the sales of Wood and Shelvey, no one should be surprised if we part with ASM now.”
Whilst a fifth commented: “If this is true, we’ll do well to get top 10 next season.”
It has been reported that Newcastle are eyeing signings across different areas of the pitch.
The likes of James Maddison, Scott McTominay, Moises Caicedo and Conor Gallagher have all been linked with a move to the North East.
